Third-Party AI Services and Data Sharing

⚠️ Important Disclosure — AI Data Processing

Many of our apps use artificial intelligence (AI) services to provide identification, analysis, and other features. By using these features, your data will be shared with third-party AI providers.

OpenAI (ChatGPT API)

Approximately 80% of our apps use OpenAI's GPT API for AI-powered features including:

  • Image recognition and identification (plants, animals, objects, cards, etc.)
  • Text analysis and generation
  • Natural language processing
  • Content recommendations

What Data is Shared with OpenAI

When you use AI-powered features, the following data may be sent to OpenAI:

  • Images: Photos you capture or upload for identification/analysis
  • Text input: Questions, prompts, or text you enter
  • App usage data: Context needed to provide the service

Important: We do NOT share:

  • Your name, email, or contact information
  • Your device identifiers or location
  • Payment information
  • Data from other apps on your device

OpenAI's data processing is governed by their privacy policy: openai.com/privacy

How We Protect Your Data

To protect your privacy when using third-party AI:

  • API keys are stored securely on Cloudflare Workers (for approximately 10 apps)
  • API requests are encrypted using HTTPS
  • We do not log or store API responses on our servers
  • You can delete local app data at any time from your device

Your Consent: By using AI-powered features in our apps, you explicitly consent to sharing the necessary data with OpenAI for processing. You can choose not to use these features if you do not consent.

Third-Party Data Protection Assurance

We carefully select third-party partners and require that each provider with whom we share user data maintains data protection standards that are equivalent to or exceed those described in this Privacy Policy and required by Apple's App Store guidelines. Specifically:

  • All third-party SDKs and services integrated into our apps are contractually obligated to protect user data in accordance with applicable privacy laws and Apple's Developer Program License Agreement.
  • We regularly review our third-party integrations to ensure compliance.
  • Third-party partners are prohibited from using data collected through our apps for purposes other than those specified in this Privacy Policy.

App Tracking Transparency (ATT) and Tracking Disclosure

What is Tracking?

In accordance with Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework, “tracking” refers to linking user or device data collected from our app with data from other companies' apps, websites, or offline properties for targeted advertising or advertising measurement purposes.

How We Handle Tracking

  • Consent-based tracking: Before any tracking occurs, we request your explicit permission through Apple's ATT prompt. You will see a system dialog asking: “Allow [App Name] to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites?”
  • No tracking without consent: If you decline or have not yet been asked, we do not engage in any tracking activities. SDKs integrated into our apps are configured to respect your ATT choice.
  • IDFA access: We only access your device's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) if you have granted tracking permission through the ATT prompt.

How to Revoke Tracking Consent

You can change your tracking permission at any time:

  1. Open your device's Settings app
  2. Navigate to Privacy & Security → Tracking
  3. Find the relevant app and toggle tracking off

You can also enable “Allow Apps to Request to Track” to be off, which will automatically deny all future tracking requests across all apps.

Revoking Permissions and Consent

You have full control over the permissions granted to our apps. You can revoke any permission at any time:

PermissionHow to Revoke
Camera accessSettings → Privacy & Security → Camera → [App Name] → Toggle off
Photo Library accessSettings → Privacy & Security → Photos → [App Name] → Toggle off
Location accessSettings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → [App Name] → Select “Never”
Tracking (ATT)Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → [App Name] → Toggle off
NotificationsSettings → [App Name] → Notifications → Toggle off

Revoking a permission may limit certain features of the app but will not affect other functionality.

Information We Collect Directly

Local Data Storage

Most app data is stored locally on your device:

  • User preferences and settings
  • Content you create (notes, lists, recordings, etc.)
  • App usage statistics (stored locally)
  • iCloud backup (if enabled by you through iOS settings)

Camera and Photo Library

Scanner and identification apps require camera/photo access. Photos are:

  • Processed locally on your device OR sent to OpenAI for identification
  • NOT stored on our servers
  • Only accessed when you actively use the feature
  • Never shared except as described in the AI section above

Location Data

Some apps (e.g., Oktoberfest Guide) may request location access for features like maps and navigation. Location data is used only for the intended functionality and is not stored or shared.

Device Information

We may automatically collect:

  • Device type and operating system version
  • App version
  • Crash reports (anonymous)
  • Basic usage analytics (anonymous)

Purpose Limitation and Data Use

We are committed to using your data only for the specific purposes for which it was collected:

  • Data collected for attribution and advertising measurement will only be used for attribution and advertising measurement.
  • Data collected for AI-powered features will only be used for providing those AI-powered features.
  • Data collected for analytics will only be used for improving app performance and user experience.

We will not repurpose data collected for one function to serve a different function without obtaining your explicit consent first. For example, data collected through analytics SDKs will not be used for advertising targeting, and data shared with AI services will not be used for advertising measurement.

No Hidden User Profiling

We do not attempt to identify anonymous users or build user profiles from collected data. Specifically:

  • We do not combine data from Apple-provided APIs (such as device information or usage data) with other data sources to create user profiles.
  • We do not use anonymized or aggregated data to attempt to re-identify individual users.
  • We do not use device fingerprinting techniques to track users who have declined tracking consent.
  • We do not use data derived from Apple APIs (including device APIs, analytics, or system frameworks) for purposes beyond those disclosed in this Privacy Policy.
